Their Bathroom

I was sitting by the window and watching the view, the sunset was happening. The view was magnificent. Well, it’s only the view of the city, tall buildings, short buildings, trees in between, roads and streets, and the red lights that I couldn’t see since I was too far away. But, the idea behind the image is what made it so fantastic. Pretty crazy to be able to see the city all at once, knowing that an endless number of lives goes on out there, and it’s only seen as one.

The sun was bright yellow–safe to look at. It was squeezed between two towers not very far away from us. I made a bet with myself that I’d track down the sun till it disappeared. But, I must have concentration issues, I was distracted by small things happening around whether they were so far away in the distance or just nearby. A dog was playing with a young boy in the alley. A worker was wandering about the construction site in his blue towel around his neck; he was wearing his sweatpants, and was holding a bottle of shampoo. He must’ve been out of the shower. He was walking on the wood pallets and dust and concrete just so casually, probably humming a song to himself. Where do they shower, though?! It never occurred to me before.

The sun was orange. I looked away for only a few seconds. A man stepped out of the balcony of the house on our left side. I had kept my eyes on that balcony from before, seemed very interesting with those trees and beautiful plants all over. The man walked around to check on something; too far away to see what. I looked back at the sun again; it was bright red. How did it all happen so fast?! I promised myself that I’d keep my eyes locked on it till it fully sunk. The dog barked. The horizon was slightly purple. It was dusty. A bit brown, the hills in the great distance were almost covered in the city smog. Aesthetically speaking, they looked beautiful, but they were pure pollution; where’s the beauty in that?! The edge of the red sun sunk behind a roof of a building. I shouldn’t have looked anywhere else; the sunset happens so fast.
